The birds are flocked around the feeders this morning, as the snow gently fills the air and covers over the ugliness of shriveled greenery. In the sparkling world around me, I am still living in the long night just past, remembering the story and the prophecies and the promise, “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not put it out.” Sometimes it’s hard to see the light, the world seems crazy and our hopes are dashed beyond saving. All the carols of joy can’t save us, nor can the memory of something that happened thousands of years ago. It’s the promised presence of God still with us, bringing the light to our darkness that can give us hope and peace and perhaps even joy. May the love come to us this day truly bring you the light you need to sing, “Joy to the World, the Lord has come….”
