This is what I’m reading today. It makes sense to me as a believer and as a pastor, the leader of a faith community. It give me hope in the face of sad news to understand that God is always at work to redeem the world and our lives, if we will just open our eyes and our hearts to see it and live it. I wanted to write it down some where, so I created a little piece of art to quote Epperly in another paragraph. Here it is:
“While the power of affirmative faith is recognized throughout the biblical tradition, Paul’s counsel to the church at Rome is the touchstone for the creative transformation of our minds, bodies, relationships, and communities: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you nay discern what is the will of God — what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12;2). Paul’s words capture the essence of what biblical scholar Walter Brueggemann has described as the “prophetic imagination,” the courage to live by an alternative reality rather than by the unjust and confining structurres of the world and our personal existence.”
