No sermon this week, as it is a 5th Sunday, and we will be enjoying a “Hymn Sing” Sunday. Instead of a sermon, a few people will talk about their favorite hymns and why they are such favorites. Then we will sing them. We love this chance to hear people talk about what sustains their faith. We also choose a bunch of the hymns we sing during the service – leading to the alternate name for this service – Stump the Piano Player.
We will also learn a new Gathering liturgy that includes bells, choir and congregation. We will sing this through the whole Advent season, these four weeks before Christmas, as we light the Advent candles each week. It is a time to prepare our hearts to receive the Christ child at Christmas, but also a time to think about Christ’s coming at the last day, when we will be gathered into God’s new kingdom. Readings will reflect the themes of judgement and the end times, stirring up our hope for the groaning of the present time to be ended and the entry into God’s full future for us realized.
Check our calendar for coming events as we prepare for Christmas and join us for any of them.
