My friend Carolee began posting on her Facebook page what she was thankful for everyday in the midst of the toughest time of her life. She was in therapy struggling to recover from the lasting effects of clergy sexual abuse during her teen years. Everyday I read what she was thankful for, and it made me realize what I was thankful for in my own life. So this year I began to post my own gratitudes everyday. Some days it’s simple things like going to the gym and having a day off, others it’s for bigger things like owning my own home and living right on the Crooked River. And then there are some days that being the pastor to a community of believers struggling to be God’s people fills me with joy and gratitude. God has blessed us so richly, don’t you think? I love my work among you, and the way that ministering to you ministers to me.
So many of the Psalms begin with thanksgiving and praise for all that God is and does for us. On this day of Thanksgiving, I join in lifting my voice in praise and thanksgiving for so many blessings they are hard to count.
What are you thankful for?
