Each Sunday, many Christians sing their faith. The words of favorite hymns and psalms become their companions in their dark nights of the soul or in the anguish of illness. Each day as I begin my morning walk, I sing the praise hymn: “This is the day/this is the day/ that The Lord has made/that The Lord has made..I will rejoice/and be glad in it.” I have found that beginning the day with gratitude enables me to see opportuities even in difficult situations.
Affirmations of faith and creative visualizations were at the heart of Jesus’ ministry. “You are the light of the world,” Jesus proclaimed to his followers. To vacillating Peter, Jesus affirmed a new name: “You are the Rock on which I will build my church.” Perhaps in his own times of trial, Peter found courage as he remembered and repeated what Jesus had told him years before. “I am a rock…I am a rock…I am a rock…rock solid in my faith.”
