Advent Photo Day 3: Sun
This is a picture from my trip to the Holy Land in June this year. This is the Mount of Temptation in the Judean Desert, near Jericho and the Dead Sea. The story is that this is the mountain on which Satan promised to give Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if he would bow down and worship Satan. Jesus remembered the first commandmant: “You shall have no other gods before me.” At the base of the mountain is St George’s monastery, which has been there since the 3rd Century. We are reminded to wait with patience for the coming of God’s kingdom at the end on time, but we also recognize that Jesus brought in the Kingdom of God for all of us in his death and resurrection. Part of our waiting is enduring the life lived in the broken world at the same time that we live in the new world of God’s promises pulling us into the future.
